OPC Qualities and Status Codes

This document serves as an introduction to quality information in the OPC Router’s OPC client context. For a detailed description, the topics are divided into two separate documents.

Overview

In the OPC client environment, a distinction must be made between two technically distinct levels:

  • OPC-DA Qualities: classic quality values that the OPC Router can output as a Quality-String or Quality-ID depending on the context
  • OPC-UA Status Codes: OPC-UA-specific status codes that the OPC Router can also provide as a Quality-String or Quality-ID in the OPC-UA context

Usage in the OPC Router

The reference to OPC-DA qualities is relevant when classic quality values are to be described or interpreted in the OPC client context.

The reference to OPC-UA status codes is useful when Quality-ID or Quality-String values provided in the OPC-UA context need to be defined more precisely in technical terms or when typical UA-specific error scenarios need to be explained.
