Security Guidelines

The OPC Router is installed using a simple setup program, and configuration and project planning are largely graphical. Despite the simple commissioning and operation, it is essential that you read and follow the following instructions to ensure data and system integrity.

warning

Important: Consult your system administrator before installation or update and follow the relevant company guidelines. We strongly recommend that access to the computer with the OPC Router installed be restricted to authorized personnel, especially since access data to the connected systems is also stored here.

Required knowledge

Safe commissioning and administration as well as understanding of the manual require the following knowledge: System administration of the Windows operating system used, IT security, knowledge of the connected third-party software (e.g., database administration, OPC server, MES, ERP systems).

Installation and update

  1. Before installing or updating your production server, we recommend that you back up the system.
  2. Since the router setup may update or install Windows system components, please close all open programs before starting the router setup.
  3. Before updating the production server, we recommend ensuring that your project configuration is compatible with the new version, e.g., by performing a preliminary test with the new version on a virtual machine.
  4. If you use directory settings other than those suggested by the setup, please make a note of them???this will simplify any support issues.

Project configuration

By default, the router can be configured on the production system. We recommend backing up the system before commissioning new plug-ins or activating new transfer configurations. If you are testing new pages with production data, please remember to back up the database before testing and to ensure data consistency after testing. We recommend that you test the projects thoroughly to ensure that they function as desired.
