Licensing

OPC Router offers flexible licensing models and can be run without a license in 2-hour demo mode. In this mode, all features are available; however, after two hours, the runtime environment stops data transfers, which can be reactivated for another two hours by manually restarting the application. The two licensing models—Perpetual and Subscription—are explained below.

Licensing Options

Perpetual

  • One-time payment for unlimited use.
  • Includes basic functions such as scripts, calculators, data transfers, and more
  • Expandable with additional plug-ins, add-ons, and ETL tools
  • Entitlement to maintenance and support must be purchased separately at the time of purchase and is valid for one year. This entitlement can be renewed annually to continue receiving support and updates.

Subscription

  • Annually adjustable rental license with various tiers.
  • Includes maintenance and support for the duration of the subscription.
  • Divided into three tiers: Plain, Standard, and Enterprise
  • Each tier offers a set of core features with the option for expansion

A subscription license is valid for a limited time. Once the license expires, a new license must be installed or the license must be renewed to continue using OPC Router productively. Automatic license synchronization can handle this for you in the background.

warning

Upon expiration of a subscription license, the right of use expires. Configuration and diagnostic functions will no longer be available from this point on. However, any ongoing production will not be interrupted, as the existing runtime will continue to run temporarily.

For a detailed overview of the license tiers, see the chapter License Tiers

Additional Licenses

Inray also offers demo and education licenses. These function similarly to the subscription license.

License Activation

note

Note: Licenses must be activated on the system. A license portal is available for this purpose. This portal enables easy management and activation of licenses to ensure smooth operation of the OPC Router.

  • Online Activation:
    • Possible with or without synchronization.
    • Without synchronization, only the exchange of activation information occurs automatically.
    • With synchronization, extensions or renewals are automatically synchronized.

Important Note: TLS Requirements for the OPC Router License Portal Starting June 10, 2026

Starting June 10, 2026, the OPC Router License Portal will require up-to-date TLS encryption (TLS 1.2 with strong cipher suites or TLS 1.3). Older Windows systems without the latest security updates may not meet this requirement.

System requirements depending on the activation method:

  • Online licensing and license synchronization: The system on which the OPC Router is running must support current TLS encryption. Otherwise, license activation and automatic license synchronization will fail after this date.
  • Offline licensing: The activation steps are performed in the OPC Router License Portal via a browser. Ensure that the browser you are using and the system on which the browser is running support current TLS encryption.

If necessary, you can adjust the TLS configuration of your Windows system. For more information, see the Microsoft documentation on TLS cipher suites.

  • Offline Activation:
    • Requires the exchange of an activation file via a system with Internet access.
note

Note: In container environments (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), online synchronization is required if the system is operated without a TPM2 module.

  • Licensing via Environment Variables
    • For licensing via environment variables, the system must have internet access.
