Network Settings

It is common for systems connected via the OPC Router to be installed on different computers. This is not a problem for the router. However, ensuring that the Windows configuration on the involved computers is correct is crucial. It is essential that you commission a distributed router project in collaboration with your network administrator. By the way, inray also offers project planning and commissioning as a service.

We generally recommend that you observe the following:

• Disable the Windows Firewall on the involved computers. Especially when the OPC server and OPC Router are running on different computers, using the firewall is not straightforward due to dynamic port assignment via DCOM. If disabling the firewalls is out of the question, please contact inray.
• Ask your network administrator to enable communication between the involved systems. Special permissions are often required if the connected servers are not on the same network as the OPC Router (e.g., sending email via an external mail server).
• Set up a user account
  • that is logged into your Windows domain
  • that has administrator rights on the computer running the OPC Router
    • under which the OPC Router service is started (see Notes on Configuring Windows User Accounts for the OPC Router)
  • who receives the DCOM permissions on the computer running the OPC Server
  • who is also logged in as a user to MS SQL or Oracle via Windows authentication.
