Network settings

It often happens that the systems connected via the OPC Router are not installed on the same computer. This is not a problem for the router. However, incorrect Windows configuration of the computers involved can lead to errors. It is essential that you commission a distributed router project together with your network administrator. Incidentally, inray also offers project planning and commissioning as a service.

We generally recommend that you observe the following:

  • Deactivate the Windows firewall on the computers involved. Especially if the OPC server and OPC Router are running on different computers, the use of the firewall is not readily possible due to the dynamic port assignment via DCOM. If deactivating the firewalls is not an option, please contact inray.
  • Ask your network administrator to enable communication between the systems involved. Special permissions are often required if the connected servers are not on the same network as the OPC Router (e.g., sending mail via an external mail server).
  • Set up a user who
    • is logged on to your Windows domain
    • has administrator rights on the computer with the OPC Router
    • starts the OPC Router service
    • receives the DCOM permissions on the computer with the OPC server
    • is also logged on to MS SQL or Oracle as a user via Windows authentication.
