Edge Device Management

Installing the OPC Router using edge device management software such as Portainer, Siemens Industrial Edge, or Azure IoT enables simplified and centralized deployment on edge devices. These platforms manage the OPC Router as a container, thereby simplifying installation and updates across a wide range of devices.

The platforms in detail​

  • Portainer – Container management with two approaches: App Template for the local Docker environment, Edge Template for multiple OPC Routers in external clusters.
  • Siemens Industrial Edge – Installation via the Industrial Edge Hub, management, and connection to the Industrial Edge Databus via an MQTT plug-in; currently only available for devices with the x86_64architecture.
  • Azure IoT Edge Marketplace – Deployment as a Marketplace module on an IoT Edge device, using the environment variables OR_I_ACCEPT_EULA and OR_DISABLE_AUTH.

Check installation​

After deployment, check the same things on every platform: whether Web Management responds via the published port and whether the runtime is ready. These two steps are described under "Verify Installation."
